In addition to the options provided herewith, the various lodges are also able to co-ordinate private road transfers, charter hops and individual charter flights on your behalf. Contact the lodge of your choice for further travel options.
Via Airlink:
Airlink operates a daily scheduled flight service from O.R. Tambo International Airport (JNB) directly into the MalaMala Airfield (AAM). Although MalaMala is not a member of the Sabi Sand Reserve, Lion Sands Private Game Reserve, Nottens Bush Camp, and Kirkman's Kamp have access to the airfield to collect or drop off their guests.
The daily schedule is as follows:
- SA 8863: Departs from Johannesburg at 11h10 to arrive at 12h10
- SA 8862: Departs from MalaMala Airfield at 12h30 to arrive back in Johannesburg at 13h35
Federal Air:
Federal Air is a charter shuttle service which operates out of Oliver Tambo International Airport (JNB) or Kruger Mpumalanga International Airport (KMIA) into the following Sabi Sand Reserve Lodges.

Via Road:
There are three entry gates into the Sabi Sand Reserve (Click here to view map) - Shaw's Gate, Newington Gate and Gowrie Gate. Each of the Lodges have been coloured on the map to reflect which gate its' guests would utilise.
Please note, The Shaws Gate and the Newington Gate are a 5 and a half hour drive from Johannesburg. The Gowrie Gate is a 7 hour drive from Johannesburg. An entrance fee of ZAR 110.00 per vehicle, and an additional R20.00 per occupant is payable (cash only). The Gates open at 05h00 / 06h00 am and close at 22h00 / 23h00. Please note that these times are subject to change. The Sabi Sand Reserve is a protected reserve and therefore access is restricted - hence the gate opening and closing times.
Once you enter the Sabi Sand Game reserve, please drive carefully and adhere to the following regulations:
- Travel directly to your destination and do not deviate from the route.
- Do not leave the roads.
- Do not leave your vehicle, remain in your vehicle at all times.
- Remain at a respectable distance from wild animals.
- Remember that all wild animals are dangerous.
- Do not exceed the speed limit of 40 km/hour.
- Do not feed the animals in the Sabi Sand Reserve.
- Retain your receipt as proof of entrance and have it stamped at your destination.
- Do not litter in the reserve.
