The Sabi Sand Reserve is easily accessible via road, scheduled air and charter service. Below you will find a list of options available to guide you on the best travel choice for you to and from the reserve.

Visitors to the Sabi Sand can travel to the area by private air charter to the lodges’ airstrips, fly directly to KMIA, or self-drive from Johannesburg. The lodges are also able to co-ordinate private road transfers, charter hops and individual charter flights on behalf of visitors. Contact the lodges directly for further travel options.

Via Air

A number of direct scheduled charter flights operate between OR Tambo International Airport and the lodges of the Sabi Sand Reserve on a daily basis. Visitors are also able to fly into Kruger Mpumalanga International Airport (Nelspruit) or Eastgate Airport (Hoedspruit) on commercial airlines, and to connect via road transfer or charter hop to the Sabi Sand Reserve. Specific information in respect of times and rates are available from the lodges directly.

Via Road

There are three entry gates into the Sabi Sand Reserve - Shaws Gate, Newington Gate and Gowrie Gate. Please note, Shaws Gate and Newington Gate are a five-and-a- half hour drive from Johannesburg. Gowrie Gate is a seven hour drive from Johannesburg. There is a gate entrance fee to the Sabi Sand.

The Gates open at 05h00/06h00 and close at 22h00/23h00. Please note that these times are subject to change. The Sabi Sand Reserve is a protected reserve and therefore access is restricted.

Please note: On entrance into the SSW
Vehicle entrance fee R160.00 per vehicle
and R40.00 per person.
(Valid until 31 August 2013)

From 01 September 2013, fees will increase to R190.00 per vehicle, and R50.00 per person.

Once you enter the Sabi Sand Game Reserve, please drive carefully and adhere to the following regulations:

  • Travel directly to your destination and do not deviate

from the route.

  • Do not leave the roads.

  • Do not leave your vehicle, remain in your vehicle at

    all times.

  • Remain at a respectable distance from wild animals.

  • Remember that all wild animals are dangerous.

  • Do not exceed the speed limit of 40 km/hour.

  • Do not feed the animals in the Sabi Sand Reserve.

  • Retain your receipt as proof of entrance and have it

    stamped at your destination.

  • Do not litter in the reserve.
