Cuisine description:

The kitchen team of Kirkman's Kamp is tasked with creating meals that exude the essence of Africa's richness, its history, its soul. "We want our food to celebrate our continent rather than copy Western fads or fussiness".

The freshest of fresh food is purchased from surrounding communities - lemongrass, mint, sun-ripened tomatoes, wild rice, bananas of every shape and hue, and mangoes by the treeful. Africa's pantry is endless. Our food is wholesome, natural and generous - never drowned in sauces or served grandly stacked in tiers. Our food is like our continent - it is exciting, fresh, robust, vibrant, unadorned, bursting with flavour, and very precious.

Facilities:

The colonial atmosphere of gracious style and luxury has been retained, and guests step back in time upon entering the original homestead, which now houses the Lodge's sitting, dining and bar areas. The large sitting room, with a 1920's ambience, leads through double French doors onto rolling lawns that provide a velvety contrast to the wild and tumbling bush surrounding the Lodge. Breakfast and lunch are served on shady verandas, and dinners are shared in the dramatic boma or in romantic lanternlit bush settings.

The camp also includes a rim-flow swimming pool and a Safari Shop.

Points of Interest:

Kirkman's Community Achievements include building 2 classrooms, ablutions & kitchen for Happy Homes crèche; providing tertiary education bursaries; supplying 2 000 hippo water rollers to Huntington community; and conducting ongoing career guidance & HIV/AIDS workshops in local communities.
