Idube Private Game Reserve is one of the longest existing game lodges in the Sabi Sand.  Built and designed by owner Louis Marais, Idube was opened to the public in 1989.  The secret of our success has been offering some of the best animal sightings in the world combined with excellent service, knowledgeable rangers who have been at Idube for many years and the ability to make guests feel completely at home.  This is another reason why so many guests return to Idube time and time again.

The extensive lawns are home to a variety of animals.  Although these tolerate the presence of humans, they remain wild and free and have become firm favourites with guests.   There are at times as many as 23 nyala (antelope) on the lawn.  Warthogs are regular visitors as are the vervet monkeys whose alarm cries are warnings that predators are on the prowl.

Accommodation description:

The eight individual suites are built at some distance from each other among the Knobthorn and Jackalberry trees.   The suites are all individually decorated in a modern African theme.  The beds are enveloped by gauzy mosquito netting.  The bed linen is pure cotton.  All the suites have high ceilings and are particularly suitable for anyone suffering from respiratory problems.   The windows and doors have extra screens which keep all sorts of insects outside.   Windows can be left open at night so that the exciting sounds of the bush can be appreciated.

Each suite is air conditioned and there are overhead fans. En suite bathrooms with inside showers and for the more adventurous, there are outside shower as well.   His and Hers basins compliment the bathroom.

Private decks with comfortable Morris-type chairs ensure complete relaxation.

All the suites were refurbished last year and the bathrooms totally gutted and rebuilt.

In addition to the original suites, the new Makubela Suites offer the ultimate in luxury , comfort and privacy.   Named after a female leopard which made the lodge grounds part of her territory, these two new suites are built at the end of a raised walkway.   Each suite has a 360 degree view of the surrounding bush..   The bathrooms are huge – again with indoor showers and his and hers basins.  The outside showers can be accessed from inside and out.   Each suite has its own private splash pool.   Private dinners can be ordered and served on the deck overlooking the pool.   The Makubela suites are the ideal honeymoon venue boasting kingsize beds, pure cotton sheets, romantic candlelit dinners

Children's policy:

Children over 8 years are accepted.

Cuisine description:

A combination of local and international cuisine with an emphasis on first class quality of ingredients. Breakfast and lunch are served in a variety of venues and dinner is served under the stars in the lodge boma.  A separate bush boma provides guests with a taste of pure South African cuisine.

Facilities:

Boulder pool; four thatched game viewing decks, swing bridge leading to a hide overlooking Shadulu Dam; dining deck, full bar facilities, boma and separate bush boma.

Points of Interest:

Idube was the first lodge in the Sabi Sand to recycle water naturally.  This water is used to keep the lawns green.   Nothing natural was moved during the building of the lodge – the buildings embraced existing rocks, trees and termite mounds.   Gas geysers were recently introduced to minimise our carbon footprint.
